A Year In The Life

A Year In The Life...
 
2007 was quite an incredible year for Dead Letter Chorus. Before they released their debut EP in July of last year Dead Letter Chorus had played a total of 15 live shows. 6 months and 4 National tours later, Dead Letter Chorus have built a strong and loyal fan base that has set them up perfectly for the year ahead. All this without releasing a full-length album.
 
January-June 2007
- Played a handful of shows in Sydney and Melbourne in the cities best underground venues.
- Recorded debut EP live in one day
- Secured a deal with independent record label CodeOne
- Held sold-out launch for debut EP Listen Carefully (We Shall Say This Only Once) at Sydney’s Hopetoun Hotel.
 
July 2007
- National release of Listen Carefully (We Shall Say This Only Once) through CodeOne/MGM.
- "Fred Astaire" added to high rotation on independent radio stations FBi, 2ser, PBS and 4zzz.
- Feature Artist on national radio station Triple J as an "upcoming band to watch".
 
August 2007
- Listen Carefully... feature as "Indie Album of the Week" in Sydney’s street press magazine "The Brag".
- Glowing reviews flow in from all around the nation for Listen Carefully...
- Headlined first tour to sold-out rooms in capital cities.
 
September 2007
- Invited to play on the main stage of FBi Festival (Sydney’s Largest Independent Radio Station) – Broadcast live.
- Shows with premier independent bands Old Man River and Bertie Blackman.
 
October 2007
- East Coast Tour with The Gin Club.
- Overwhelmingly shining reviews of their live shows.
 
November 2007
- Headlined Newtown Festival – the bands first festival appearance.
- Invited to perform at the MusicOz Awards, Australia’s Largest Independent Awards Show at The Enmore Theatre, National Television Broadcast on Channel V.
- National tour with Five-Time ARIA nominated Kate Miller-Heidke taking in venues such as The Tivoli in Brisbane and The Metro in Sydney.
 
December 2007
- Opened Feelgood Festival main stage with De La Soul, Buck 65, Angus and Julia Stone, and more.
- Headlined New Years Eve show with Hawksley Workman (Can) and Steve Poltz (U.S.A).
 
January 2008
- National Tour with Steve Poltz (U.S.A).
- Performed at Australia Day Festival in Sydney’s Hyde Park.
- Support for Andrew Bird (U.S.A) at his Sydney Festival performance.
- Shows with Joel Plaskett (Can).
 
Feb-March 2008
- Special Guests at Sydney Uni and Unsw O-Week celebrations, playing main support for Clare Bowditch and Kate Miller-Heidke.
- Opening night appearance at Playground Weekender Festival with Maximo Park, Ian Brown etc.
 
The Future?
After a seemingly never-ending run of shows, Dead Letter Chorus are currently working on their debut full-length album, due for release mid-to-late this year. They will be previewing their material at such performances as The Gum Ball (Mia Dyson, Vasco Era etc) as well and a number of headlining shows in and around Sydney.

We have begun this blog site as a way of communication so that we can more openly interact with the public. We will be using this site to post information about shows, album progress as well as any interesting stories, photos, videos or some funny cartoon emails that we get and want to forward to you...you get the idea.

Anyhow check out these posters for some sweet gigs that we have coming up.
We will try and update as often as possible and already have a large back-log of posts that we will get up asap.
